AIS Finland is testing AIXM 5.1 data exchange using AIP Supplement (AIP SUP) file attachments.
Aeronautical information users have requested a better way to distribute permanent and temporary airspace reservation data in digital format. AIP SUP publication contains location information as a text data, but using that data requires manual selection and copying.
Separate AIXM file enables automation and data conversion processes.
Pdf certificate covers also attached files inside pdf. All AIS Finland pdf publications are signed using globally trusted certificate. A certified document assures the recipient that the document is authentic, comes from a verified source, and has not been tampered with.
The chosen file attachment format is Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) version 5.1. This model enables aeronautical information distribution in digital format. The model can contain various features and details, but at this phase only selected features are included.

The AIXM 5.1 data model based xml file will be attached to selected temporary airspace reservations published by AIP SUP. Attachment contains the following features:
The attached file is not for operational purposes but it is intended to test and develop electronic data delivery options.
The attached file can be found and saved in the base attachment panel of the Adobe Reader. Attached xml file is a simple text file and can be opened for example with notepad like programs for viewing.

There are many commercial solutions and free software packages available for viewing and manipulating the AIXM
file. One software free of charge is Luciad AIXM 5 viewer: https://go.hexagongeospatial.com/luciad-aixm-5-viewerdownload. Registration is required. |
If AIXM file distribution and usage is found feasible, future AIP SUP publications may always have AIXM file attached to temporary airspace reservations. Also distribution of permanent areas published in AIP will be studied.
